The Original Poem:
|
This is the official website of the original poem,
And God Said No.
My purpose in establishing this website is to make the one and only true version available. If you click on The History of the Original Poem, you will see a little about its origin and where it has been since I wrote
it in 1980. It has been quite a journey for me, my family, and the poem, and I have been trying to pay close attention as I walk my particular path into eternity. As a child I remember praying the Lord's Prayer everynight before sleep, with part of my mind wondering if anyone really heard it. I believe being raised in an alcoholic home honed my sensitivity to the people and the world around me. When my 20-year-old sister was murdered, when my stepfather committed suicide, when my middle child was diagnosed with a severe neurological disorder requiring 24-hour care, and when my father died of cancer and a broken heart, I was still in my 20's and full of "why's." Yet these were some of the events that shaped me and led me to Christ one New Year's Day as I tried to shake the anger I felt at life's unfairness. Once more I made a list of resolutions. I looked hopelessly at the list, knowing I would fail yet again. In complete defeat I prayed that God would simply make me more like Jesus. I did not know him well, but he always seemed to have it together and knew what He was about - and all I was sure of - was that I did not. That simple prayer changed my heart and my life forever.

![]() Angie Weisz, age 3, my daughter, my teacher and my inspiration There have been many miracles, blessings and heartaches along the way, and I have stories to share. But for the moment, this site will serve to correct some of the mangled versions of the poem on the Internet, and is now the one and only authorized site to display it. On Good Friday, 2007, my husband, Fred (Angie's father) won his battle with Lewy Body Dementia and walked straight into the arms of his Lord. We will miss him terribly. We appreciate the prayers of those who knew and loved him. I pray that God blesses you with And God Said No
